Hello,

I think I messed up... About 3-4 weeks ago I applied for permanent resident status in Canada as a spouse of Canadian citizen. Appication was received by CIC - I received AOR.

At the same time I sent an application for Open Work Permit. The problem is that I think I sent it to the wrong office.
Instead of sending it together with my PR to CPC Mississauga, I sent it to Work Permit for Sp.&common law partner in Vegreville AB.

Is that a serious mistake that may affect with them sending my application back to me or is there any hope that they will internally transfer application to the proper office.

Thanks in advance!

Did you send your OWP AND the spousal sponsorship application to Vegreville? Or did you send the OWP there and the sponsorship application to Mississauga? It's not all that clear from your post.

Spousal sponsorship was sent to CPC-M. OWP application was sent to Vegreville. Sorry if that information wasn`t clear enought in my previous post. I was/am a bit under stress being worried that I might have messed it up...

OWP is going to be either returned or refused. You should have included the OWP with your spousal sponsorship application (in the same package) to MIssissauga. What is your status in Canada? When does your status run out? Because you messed up the OWP, you don't have implied status.

Visitor.. it expires at the end of this month. What should I do now?

Do I have to apply for visitor status extension, or can I just send another OWP package - this time to the right cpc office?

You can now only reapply for you OWP after you have received your approval in principle. An AIP is when IRCC informs you that you meet the eligibility criteria for permanent residence under spousal sponsorship. Till such time you should keep applying for extending your visitor status.

As per IRCC, it currently takes 16 months to grant AIP to 80% of all the applicants. In most cases you'll receive it sooner but it'll still be months.

P. S. : The OWP pilot ends this December. So that leaves certain uncertainty.

I just phoned IRCC and their agent said that everything is in order. She said that even if the wrong office receives my application - they will internally transfer it to proper office. She suggested to patiently wait.

That's good news. I'd suggest that since you've gotten your AOR, try linking your OWP application in MyCIC. As you don't have an application number, use UCI and other details. If it links, that's all the more confirmation.

That's not always been our experience on this forum.

Absolutely apply to extend your visitor status in Canada before it runs out.
