Hi there, I'm new to this forum.
Just wondering if anyone had experience with obtaining an open work permit (OWP) for a spouse who is out of status in canada.
We sent our PR sponsorship application about 6 months ago without an OWP application, and i am currently out of status and i am wondering if i would be successful applying for an OWP under the new pilot program ?

Thanks

No - unfortunately you won't qualify for an OWP under the pilot program. One of the conditions of the pilot is that you must be have valid status in Canada.

You now have to wait until you reach stage one approval, known as AIP (Approval in Principle) to then qualify for the `regular' OWP.

Based on the current processing times, that could be sometime ~ April-May next year.

In the mean time, because you're out of status...stay out of trouble... and go hide in the basement.
(just kidding about the basement part).

Thanks guys!

that is what i expected, but i have heard of people who were out of status and submitted an application for OWP simultaneously with their sponsorship application, and it worked out.
i have been looking for the thread on the forum, but can't find it anymore.

That's not part of the Pilot Program. As the submission was simultaneous, they probably received the OWP at AIP time.
