I sent everything to Mississauga per the instructions on the PR application, but the instructions for the work permit state that it should be sent to Vegreville. I know they needed to be sent together, so was I correct in sending it to Mississauga?

Also, I currently have an OWP that is expiring in February. The application (IMM5710E) asks for what I'm applying. The CIC call centre agent I spoke with instructed me to select "a work permit with the same employer." I'm not sure why I would have selected that since I'm applying for an extension of an OWP; the employer is irrelevant.

The instructions for the extension also ask me to attain information regarding Labor Market Impact from my employer. Was I supposed to do this? It'd also require my employer to pay a fee for which I'd need to provide a receipt.

Lastly, the application asks for the duration of my expected employment. I have no idea how long I will work at my current job (unless, god forbid, I'm asked to leave Canada), so I left it blank.

Will the CIC officer understand that I'm simply trying to extend my current work permit, or will they send my application back to me?

Once again, the Call Centre was wrong!

You are applying for a new OWP, based on the fact that you have submitted an Inland sponsorship application. This OWP would allow you to work for your current employer, or any employer, with a few exceptions.

No idea if CIC will figure it out but...hopefully they will.

Good luck!

Darn it! Well, I paid the $255 and included a letter explaining what I wanted to do. We'll see what happens, I suppose.

You can send your OWP app along with your PR app to CPC-Mississauga. If you have already sent your app for PR and have not applied for OWP, you can do so and send it to VEGREVILLE.

Filling out your OWP, you can leave some questions blank

If you apply for an open work permit, you can leave questions 2 to 6 of the “Details of intended work in Canada” section blank.

Include a cover letter that it's an OWP Extension
