Hello!

My husband, whom I am sponsoring through inland application, received a letter yesterday stating that he had met the requirements for permanent residency. We do have a couple of pieces of information left to send them before we get a final decision. In the letter, it states that he should apply for a work permit in order to maintain his status.

My question is, what is the wait time for a work permit? I seem to recall being told that as long as his paperwork was pending, he had implied status. Is that not the case anymore?

Any help you can offer, would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Submitting the inland paperwork does not give him implied status. You were unfortunately given incorrect information. The open work permit application is what gives him implied status and allows him to retain legal status in Canada. Yes - it would be a good idea to submit the work permit application. Processing should only be a few weeks given the application already has already received confirmation that he meets the requirements for PR.
