I am a PR for the past 3-4 years and planning to apply for citizenship.

I own a property in India and its a place of residence for my mother and sister.

If I were to become a Canadian citizen , can I own the property and if I need to sell it off ? What are the options. Please share.Thanks.

Q: Can OCI card holders purchase property in India?
A: OCI card holders can purchase residential and commercial properties in India. But they are not permitted to purchase agricultural land, including farmland or any kind of plantation property.

Ps.: A NRI who already has property in India - acquires citizenship of another country and thus renounces his/her Indian citizenship - can still continue to own that Indian property and deal with it as if s/he is still an Indian citizen. Btw, tho not legally required but it helps to obtain and posses an OCI card under such circumstances.

BTDT :)

Owning is not a problem - but when you sell you have 30% tax deducted from your sale of your property that is the only difference.
