I am a Canadian citizen and I sponsored my wife from within Canada. I submitted the sponsorship application along with visit visa extension application on the 16th of December. My wife's visit visa was supported to expire on January 15, 2018.
On Feb 1st, My wife received an email with application reference number (for her permanent residency application), her UCI along with request to link it with her online account.
One Feb 2nd, I received an email with the same application reference number and my UCI.
On Feb 8th, we received a letter by mail informing us the visit visa extension application was returned due to incomplete information. From my understanding of the letter, we submitted visit visa extension application along with the permanent residency application; however i understood that the application center accepts only open work permit applications to be submitted along with the permanent residency application. The next week I resubmitted the Open Work Permit application, paid its fees along with the fees for restoration of status.
My questions here:
1. Is the email acknowledgement she received considered the AOR and would this mean that she is on implied residency status?
2. Given that her visit visa extension application was returned, does it mean that she is illegal now despite the fact that we re-submitted the application with the correct form and despite the fact that we received the letter mentioned in Question 1?
3. On average how long does it take to confirm the eligibility of the sponsor to sponsor the spouse? It has been almost a month now for me and no change in the status.
