Hello and I am very glad i found this forum to help me and my wife through the spousal sponsorship process.

I have searched and found most questions have been answered except for one. Before we got married in Canada my wife had/still has a visitor visa and had been here for about 18 months exiting/re-entering the country every 5 months or so going back to visit family or on vacations. We have an engagement outside of Canada that will happen just before we apply and i'm thinking worst case but, if she gets denied at the border for whatever reason (which shouldn't happen as we never had a hiccup at the border before other then a few extra questions) will this affect the application?

Also if she leaves the country during the application process and is denied re-entry will this also affect the application?

Thanks again to everybody and the help is greatly appreciated.

Hi

Given her previous compliance with her visitor status, there should be no issues at the border. I suggest carrying proof of the PR app (the fee receipt is good) just in case CBSA is funny about it. On the very off chance that she is bounced back at the border, it would have no effect on submitting the PR app.

If she applies inland, then it is advised that she not leave Canada throughout the process. If she were denied re-entry, the PR would be be cancelled and you'd have to start over again applying outland.

If she applies outland, then there is no issue leaving Canada. If she were denied re-entry, this would not have any effect on an outland app.
