Outland / Inland?

In September I will have officially been living with boyfriend for a year. We are going to apply for common law.

I am an American, he is a Canadian. We have two kids together.

Currently we are residing in Quebec.

Should we be applying Outland or Inland?

How long does it typically take? Currently we have approved stay until middle of 2018.

Any tips / Tricks / Advice I need before starting?

I thought the extension for visitor was stressfull. Looking over this.. It's going to be a doozy.
