Hello new to this forum, so bear with me. I am a U.S. citizen applying through a outland sponsorship application. My husband and I were married in Montreal in Sept 2010, we are a same-sex couple. He has a permanent residency in Canada, and is a citizen of France. He currently lives in Canada. So now that you have all my information here are a few questions:

1. Once my outland application is in process, can I go to Canada and stay with my husband until I receive my visa?
(I would wait until the first step is done)

2. What do I say or not say to the border officers, so the process goes smoothly? Also what needs to be provided to them so I am allowed inside with a application in process?

3. Can he visit the U.S while the application is in process?

Thanks for your help!

He can visit and you can visit but you cannot stay there if you have applied outland. Congrats on the marriage!! :)

So would I be able to go to Canada with only a one way ticket? What I mean is would I be able to stay my six month stay as a visitor, without having a return trip home. My husband has a fixed income, and we would be willing to provide all the papers to the customs officer to show them I will not even need to work while in Canada, and that if something happens him and I will have the means to pay a plane ticket to the United States and that I still have a home there.

If your spouse is a PR he has to remain in Canada during the process. You can only leave Canada during the process if you are a Canadian Citizen...thats my understanding anyways...

You can visit your husband but you should have a return ticket to show that you come in good faith. You can get a ticket that you can change later if you need to. Tell the immigration officer that you have come to visit your husband. You can not officially move to Canada until you get your PR but you can visit for as long as they will let you. Usually they will let you stay for 6 months if you are visa exempt. You can apply to extend if you want to stay longer.

Your husband needs to be living in Canada as a PR sponsor so he can visit you but should make sure to keep his trips short and make sure that somebody is checking his mail and that he is checking his messages in case they check up on him.

Leon is ryt, you and your spouse can visit each other. He's a PR so he will need a visa to go to the States, also you are a US citizen so you are free to visit with just using your passport. Just be prepared to show you have ties back in the US that will take you back there (house or appartment, job etc). My friend's wife came to Canada all the time from the US for months at a time as well while they were processing her PR spousal app. Just remember, the VO office might contact you for various reasons, so if you visit for an extended time make sure someone is checking your mail, you do not want to miss vital deadlines.
