There was an article on CBC news today about the new tracking changes: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/canadians-going-to-u-s-for-long-stays-need-to-be-mindful-of-changes-says-mp-1.2912096

It says that Canadians who overstay in the U.S. (more than fours months, it seems!) can be banned from the country for three to 10 years! The consequences of staying in Canada too long may be different, but I can assure you that the tracking works in both directions.

A double standard compared to south of our border in my opinion.

The IRS is exceedingly difficult to get along with. I think the U.S. is the only country in the world that taxes citizens who don't even live or work in their country of citizenship. I'm pretty sure that the four month thing is all the IRS. Otherwise six months would be fine.

there's a country in africa that does the same thing. so, the us is 1 of 2 countries who tax citizens no matter where they live.

Okay, that's good to know. I knew there weren't too many other countries like that.

That other country is Eritrea, for the curious. :)
