Hi all!

If the sponsor has no blood relatives in Canada of any kind (and no spouse) can a non-dependent child living outside of Canada be sponsored instead?

Thank you in advance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the age of the child. How old?

No - it doesn't.

If the "lonely Canadian" criteria is met - the child can be sponsored regardless of age and regardless of whether they are a dependent or not.

Wow. Really. That was info i wasnt aware of. Good to know.
So, as long as someone is unmarried or widowed, they can say they have no other family in Canada and sponsor a 35yr old child?
That was not info I knew before. Gooooood to know.

That - and their parents are deceased.

Thank you that is great info.

Does the "lonely Canadian" criteria apply only to blood relatives? So for example if a sponsor has "relatives" from a previous marriage in Canada but no blood relatives.

Thanks again

I believe so. Relatives as in blood relatives. I'm not 100% sure.

Yes. Basically if it is an "in-law" (mother-in-law, brother-in-law, etc) then they cannot sponsor
