Hi folks,

My father is sponsoring me since he has neither living nor Canadian relatives. One of the supporting documents he is asked to provide is proof that he is divorced/ separated, etc. Does this apply to our case, since it's not spousal?? If that's the case do we maybe have to fill a statutory declaration of severance common-law union signed by a notary public ??

common-law union between who? you and your father? It doesn't make sense.

Look at the guide carefully. Some of the "in application form" instruction is general and may not apply to your specific route of application.

It should be straight forward. Father sponsoring child. I do not know why you would be referred to as 'other relative'?

Technically I couldn't be sponsored because I'm overage. But since father has no other living relatives or Canadian family to sponsor instead he could sponsor one member of his family related by blood. Only under the Other relative category, regardless age.

Lol no, it's a family sponsorship under aother relative category. Not spouse. But for some reason some of the supporting documents are divorced or separated common-law proof of the person sponsoring. Which prolly makes sense since he can't have any other relatives to sponsor instead under this category.
 
He needs to provide proof that he is divorced if he was ever married. He also must provide death certificates for his parents.

Are you over 22? I think he may be applying to sponsor you under the 'lonely Canadian's program?

[Add] see canuck78's post. Of he can't have Canadian family to sponsor you,has to show he's not currently married or common law.

And sorry, missed a post or three above somehow.
