OSAP debt after marriage and leaving Canada

Hello everyone,

Me and my girlfriend are planning to marry next summer. At the same she is finishing her studies and she has OSAP debt on her. After she has finished her studdies we are planning to leave Canada for couple years. It means, that she won't have any income and my income is from another country. I am wondering if anyone ever had the similar situation. Is anyone aware if OSAP debt can be recalculated or maybe it's possible to postpone the repayment?

It makes more sense to just call OSAP...

You can't really defer the loan repayments (this is a real loan and it will stop being interest free six months after she finishes school). You can however reduce the amount of each loan payment to make the repayment for manageable and you can certainly use the income that you earn abroad to make these payments. You really want to avoid going into default on the loan since this will have a significant impact on your credit score and impact things like renting an apartment, buying a house, getting a credit card, possibly getting a job, etc. once you return to Canada.
