Hi there. I'm just about to order GCMS notes on my file for my husband. I'm a bit confused about the whole thing and I wanted to make sure I have everything 100% right.
First - I am the sponsor, a Canadian Citizen in Canada. My husband is an American Citizen and currently not in Canada.
I got him to fill out the IMM5744 form - Consent for an access to information and personal information request. He dated, signed and faxed it to me.
Second - I am filling out the online form and it asks:
*Select the category that best describes you.
In the youtube video the guy selects 'Academia' but I would think 'Member of the Public' would suit me better?
Third - I was told if I order for my husband I can click the Privacy Act and not pay 5 bucks, but it says
"Note: If you are submitting a request under the Privacy Act for information belonging to someone else, the individual to whom the information belongs must also be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or currently living in Canada."
So I assume that means I can't choose that one as my husband is none of the above. So I have to choose the other act (Access to Info.) and pay the $5 dollars?
And lastly, my file was just transferred from Mississauga to Ottawa on Friday and has not started processing (I assume) in Ottawa. Should I write 'Mississauga' as the location, or Ottawa?
Thanks in advance.
