My girlfriend (who is Canadian) is sponsoring me via the common-law route outland here in the U.K. She has been here for about a year on a working holiday visa, and we are trying to get hold of all our documents and send them off the end of next week if possible. However with the Option C Printout it states it needs to be the most recent financial year - I'm guessing this needs to be 2012-2013 financial year if you send your application before the 1st April 2014? We have got the Option C Printout from this time, and need to send the application ASAP as my police certificates will expire if a few weeks time. If you send your package - let's say on the 28th March - and it takes 3 to 5 business days to get there, will CIC then deem this as a new financial year and not accept our application as complete?

I can't give you any definite answer, but it doesn't seem to me that CIC is going to be that unforgiving. We have until April 30th to file our taxes in Canada so it's not like April 1st is when they drop the hammer and start giving people trouble. It can take weeks after filing to get your NOA and it's only after that that a new Option C would be available, so it seems irrational that CIC would be hardasses about this when tax season is so busy. Send your application as soon as you possibly can. I would think that since you've supplied the Option C, your application is technically complete. You could send a letter attached with the printout saying this was the only Option C available to your girlfriend at the time of putting the application together, if that would put you at ease a bit. If they'd rather a new printout they will request one from you. Personally speaking, I had put "N/A" on a sponsorship question I was definitely supposed to answer and CIC never said anything about it and while I was busy freaking out that my application was going to be returned I got AOR and SA. Over-thinking can mostly just stress us out more than it helps the situation. Good luck!

We just filed our 2013 tax return. They will issue our Option C by March 26th & it will get to us in 8 - 10 business days. Go to H & R Block & file it right away.

No need. It's the "most recent TAXATION year that you presently filed taxes for", and it goes by "calendar year" so I don't see how "April 1st" has anything to do with it. If it so happens to be for 2012 then so be it, you include that one.

How's your 'proof of intent to settle in Canada' coming along? Job offer in place? Or a detailed resettling plan all set out in detail?

Thanks guys for your comments, it's much appreciated. My girlfriend hasn't filed her taxes for 2013 yet, that's something she needs to do real soon. Think you made a valid point truesmile, in that its the most recent 'taxation' year. So technically it's until December 31st of that year, in my case 2012 because my girlfriend hasn't filed her taxes yet for last year, right? This is all confusing, think I'm starting to confuse myself here! And yeah Marlasinger think it's a good idea to put in a cover letter explaining it was the only Option C printout available at the time of sending the application. The stress involved during this application has been unreal!!
In terms of 'proof' we have a pretty detailed resettling plan yeah - even some statutory declarations from her parents in case we need to stay there for a bit to get us on our feet first.
