Hello all;
I am in a really complicated situation and was hoping to find some answers from people who might have been there! I am an international student and my study permit is valid till Jun 2021. My husband got an open work permit which is also valid till Jun 2021. Since I am graduating I will not extend my study permit so normally his status would change to the visitor till I get a job and my post-graduate work permit then he can get another open work permit.
The question is my husband is currently working and he is the main applicant for our CEC file. We received an ITA this February and our file is in processing. Is he eligible to extend his work permit or his status will change to the visitor anyway?
Thanks for your help in advance

When I applied for my PGWP last year, I also submitted an application for extension for my wife's OWP. Both got approved, with my wife's OWP expiring the same time as my PGWP.

In your case, since you have an ITA, you may qualify for the bridging work permit:

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio.../extend-permit/bridging-open-work-permit.html

Who can apply for a BOWP
To be eligible, you must:
  • live in Canada (Quebec not included)
  • have a valid work permit that expires in 4 months or less
  • be the principal applicant on your permanent residence application
  • have submitted a complete application for permanent residence and passed the completeness check
  • have your acknowledgement of receipt letter
    • we send this letter to your account after we get your permanent residence application
