My husband and I want to apply for the open work permit visa here in Nigeria. How do we go about the TRV for our kids (2yr and 1yr old). Or Shud my husband apply and we be dependant on him and can we all travel at the same time.
On what basis are you applying for an open work permit? Is one of you already in Canada as an International Student on a visitor visa? Or is one of you already in Canada on a closed work permit based on an LMIA in a NOC A, B or 0 profession?

You have misunderstood the rules and do not qualify for an open work permit. If you wish to work in Canada, you must obtain a full time job offer from an employer in Canada, that employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA, and then you must apply for a closed work permit.
To visit Canada, you would be applying for a normal tourist visa (temporary resident visa - TRV). There is no open work permit granted with a TRV.
Open work permits are only granted with TRPs (temporary resident permit). TRPs and TRVs are not the same thing. TRPs are very hard to get and are only available to people who are inadmissible to Canada (typically due to a crime).
OK so what u are implying is that we Shud get a job in Canada first then apply for a tourist visa. And is it applicable to my husband and I or just the principal applicant

No - you would first find a job in Canada. Next the employer in Canada would obtain an approved LMIA. (This process is very long and expensive. Most employers are not willing to go through this process and for this reason it is very difficult to find a job in Canada.) If you are able to get a job offer and approved LMIA, you would then apply for a closed work permit. If the job is a skilled job (NOC A, B or 0) then the spouse and child can accompany the principal applicant to Canada on either a TRV or Open Work Permit. If the job is unskilled, only the applicant can move to Canada.
