Hi everyone!

First of all I want to thank your help, You have truly saved my life with your answers! Many thanks!!!! :D :D

Unfortunately, I am facing a new situation that is making me crazy!

The order of events is as follows:
• My wife (we are legally married) has a work permit and a contract with a Canadian University (Ottawa)
• We are both from Spain
• I arrived to Canada last October as a Visitor
• Unluckily, I could not applied for the corresponding open work permit until mid December (online application)
• I will be back to spain in some weeks and I will be there for a month. Considering the worst case scenario, given the timing in the webpage, my application will not be processed when I want to come back with my wife to Canada
• How can I proceed here?
o Can I extend my visitor permit without affecting the main application?
o Can I apply for the visitor extension using an online form? Is preferable to apply by regular paper forms?
o Is there any phone number that can provide me with the answers to the questions that I’m posing?
o Is there any office that I can go in situ (Ottawa)?
• Additional Info:
o I work for a company in Spain that allows me to work remotely

I really appreciate your help! Many thanks!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm sorry I don't have time for a detailed response, but really quickly.... back when I was waiting for provincial nomination my work permit ran out and I did an online application for a visitor permit which was granted for 6 months. My PNP took longer than this, and so with a couple of weeks remaining I did another online application for visitor permit. This was also granted, but by the time it came through I'd been nominated (finally) and went to the border to get my work permit back.

The key to that story is that I was able to do what you're trying to do, with a difference being that I remained in Canada the entire time and did not cross any borders. So it should be possible. I included a cover letter with my visitor application explaining that I had originally asked for the permit while I waited for nomination but it was taking longer than expected and therefore was requesting another permit while I waited. I don't know if that helped or not, but it sure didn't hurt.

Good luck!
