Hello, I am currently working as a maintenance engineer (4years) and my wife (we just got married but we were together for 6 years) is a graduate student in Canada, currently working as a research assistant. Her study permit is expiring in Nov 2021 but she will extend it to April 2022 to finish her thesis. Do I need to wait until she gets her new study permit to apply for an open work permit? If so, will the timing process be an issue because I have heard that it takes around 4-5months to get it, her study permit might expire by the time I get an answer for the OWP.
