Currently on a NAFTA work permit/visa which is due to expire and my application is not yet processed.
Was planning on heading down to the border to apply for a renewal, but just read on here that I can apply for an Open Work Permit or bridging permit at the border.

Anyone with experience of this and know the process and how long it could take. Nafta is issued on the spot, but I would prefer an open work permit.

My application is currently AOR2 with background check not yet started and is an outland app currently being processed in Missaussaga.

You don't qualify for an OWP because you applied outland. It is only for inland apps.

Ok thanks. Thought that since my application was being processed in Mississauga it would be possible. Will stick to Nafta TN visa

Both inland and outland applications are processed through Mississauga. As explained above, your application must have been submitted through the inland application stream to qualify for an OWP. Otherwise you're out of luck.

Hmm, so if I've applied Outland but they haven't confirmed PR before I land... can I still travel?

I'm sorry. I don't understand your question.

If your PR application haven't been confirmed, then you are NOT landing... Do you mean you got a TRV or you have a visa exempt passport and is visiting Canada before you PR application is completed? You can travel as you are just a visitor. Every time you enter the border, there is always (even the slightest) a chance that you can be refused entry. If you have applied Outland, even if you are refused entry, your PR application won't be cancelled and will continue.
