Hi all,

I have been offered a contract position for a company where (I must invoice the company each month).

Is it possible for me to do this on an open work permit as a temporary resident? I currently reside in Montreal, Quebec.

The company that wants to hire you needs to obtain an approved LMIA so that you can apply for a closed work permit.

Based on the information you have provided, you do not qualify for an open work permit.

Thanks for your help Scylia,

Just to clarify - I already have the Open work Permit.

I am wondering if I can take the contract - I will work from home - and need to invoice them at the end of each month.

Got it - yes, you can certainly do that.

Thanks Scylia,

This is all new to me (originally from Ireland). Would I be right in saying that I would be considered as an independent contractor, and I just invoice as an individual. Any advice is welcome.

P.S. - I love this forum, it helped me so much with my months putting together my spousal application.

Hi,

I am in same boat as Peter.I am on open work permit and got a work from home contract job.

Can I sign the contract as sole proprietor in the BC?Invoice at end of each month?
