Hi everyone,

I sponsored my husband from inside Canada I was working and making very good income. However , I cant work now after giving birth to a very sick baby and needs to take care of the disabled baby 24/7.

My husband interview in Etobicoke office next week. My question is Can I the sponsor and my baby only without him apply for OW to cover all the medical expenses for our disabled baby ? I have exceeded my EI benefit and have to other source of income . buy the way I want to apply just for short term till my Husband find a job .

Do you think it will affect his application ? although the interview is to grant him the PR I mean would CIC withdrawal the PR from him?

Thanks!

Your question above doesn't quite make sense. Can you please explain in more detail? Are you sponsoring both your husband and your baby? Or are you asking something else?

To try to answer your question, if you go on OW and CIC finds out, you can expect your husband's sponsorship application to be refused. This means you will have to submit a new application (start the process from scratch) once you are off OW and ready again to be a sponsor.

I sponsored my husband from inside Canada after we got married last year. Then we had a baby after he got the initial approval and get he open work permit and OHIP . I was reviving EI and planing to go back to work once my Matt leave ends. After few months of my baby birth the baby became disabled and sever sick. I cant go back to work .

Last week CIC contacted my husband for interview next week .

we as a family have no income now my husband is applying everywhere but nothing . I want to apply for OW to cover the medical expenses for now for my daughter . Im using my saving for other life costs but i will run out very soon.

I hope its clear now so I can get more advices for you .

Thanks !

Is his interview with CIC for a landing interview to get his PR status, or an interview to question the legitimacy of your relationship?

You can't go on Ontario Works until he lands as a PR. If you use Ontario Works before he gets PR status, there's a good chance that you would be found ineligible to be a sponsor and have his application cancelled.

Agreed. Don't go on OW until after he has landed as a PR if you don't want to risk having the application canceled.

You should also be aware that if you go on OW once he has landed, there is still a very good chance you will have to eventually pay back a portion of the money you receive within the first three years your husband landed. When you apply for OW, you will have to declare that you are married. And as part of signing the agreement to sponsor your husband, you agreed to financially support him for the first three years after landing. This means that Canada will very likely go after you to repay some or all of the OW you receive as a family for any period during the three years after your husband has landed.

Instead of applying for OW, it would be far better for your husband to find a job. This would be the best financial option for you and your family in the long run.

This is what CIC send my husband , do you think why this interview for ?

It looks like a landing interview. I thought Canadian in-land apps all had a landing interview. I wouldn't worry about that.

My question though, if you had the baby in Canada and the baby is born citizen and you're only sponsoring your spouse, then why can't you apply for medical assistance for your child only? If you apply to cover you and your spouse, then yes, I see you running into a problem. I'm not sure if this is even an option, since I don't live in Canada. Other insights are needed, since I'm curious too.

I know down here in the USA you could apply for disability for your child, about 8 yrs ago disability (Social Security) was paying out around $400 a month for ADHD etc (sadly, yes, some parents apply, I knew a few who collected). So disabilities down here, for a child, isn't welfare, it's federal, whereas welfare is through the state.

Is Canadian welfare all or nothing? Does the Canadian government have a separate program for disabled children? If so, where do you look for information? If Canada doesn't, then can she just cover the baby and not be charged back the welfare?
