Dear senior forum members,

I know you might not have the conclusive answer to this but maybe by discussing I find a solution.

I am filling Ontatio Nominee Form. The facts are as below:-

--->Now my NOC (1111) is licensed in Ontario by Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA).

--->I am a member of CPA(Canada) and CPA (British Columbia) by way of mutual recognition of another cetification that I did. I have the acceptance letter of CPA Canada admitting me as a member of CPA Canada and CPA British Columbia. I am a bit confused. Because I am a member of both CPA Canada (national body) and CPA BC( Province). Its clearly mentioned in the letter.

My queries are:-

i) Do you think I can mention this in "Personal History" and attach the acceptance letter and e-mail correspondence with CPA Ontario which might say that we will convert you to CPA (Ontario) once you are physically present here.

ii) I checked CPA Ontario and the website states that they accept other provinces CPAs and I have sent an e-mail as-well. I am waiting for their reply. Do you think I should print e-mail correspondence and attach?

iii) With regards to the question itself,"if you intend to work in an occupation that requires licensing in Ontario, do you have a certificate of qualification issued by a provincial or territorial body? it has 3 options:- should I tick yes, no or not applicable? Which one should I select.

**This discussion is for opinion/ideas.Responsibility of final decision is on me**

I don't have a definitive answer but the steps you've outlined seem reasonable. If you have the time, wait for a response from ON about the request re: converting CPA (BC) into CPA (ON) and include that as well.

As to the question in the application form, I would say select "no" because you don't have one from Ontario yet.

Not a CPA so take my suggestions for what they are - basically unreliable. Best wishes to you.

Hi sameer_mobin, we are walking in each others shoes (in part). My story is as follows:

1) Qualified as an Australian Chartered Accountant after completing exams and the required experience in a CA firm

2) Applied for and received the reciprocal CPA, CA with CPA Ontario designation after completing the CARE reciprocity exams and paying application fees and completing the required practical experience certificates documenting in detail my experience and getting my former employers to sign the documents

3) As I became a member in 2014, I have paid 2 years of membership fees

4) I plan to not only mention these in personal history I have disclosed in my EE profile as well even though I don't get points

5) I will provide certificate copies, results transcripts, updated letters of good standing, and proof of payment of membership fees

6) I will supplement my employer reference letters, T4s, tax returns and notices of Assessment with copies of the detailed signed and verified by CPA Ontario and the employers to support the Work Experience

If there's anything I'm missing please let me know.

Hi Joacry,

I read in some threads that the licensing and certification part does not apply to outland applicants.

I dont know how true that is.But i hope we get accepted.

as for me, I am thinking to include it in Personal History and then explain it in LOE and I will attach acceptance letter and e-mail correspondence with CPA Ontario.

Before you do that I suggest you contact CPA Ontario and find out if you have to do the CARE exams. In my case they told me that they would not issue 'Letters of Good Standing' confirming my membership of the Institute until I finished the CARE exams.

Ya I am waiting for their reply.

But i really dont wanna lose this opportunity! I hope i get through.I am already a member of CPA CAnada and CPA BC after studyimg canadian tax and law.

@joacry,

I am thinking to all add in ties to ontario under "professional networks/Affiliations" where i will state that i am member of regulatory body ,CPA Canada

I would only add if I can satisfy the following conditions:

1) Provide Invoices for membership fees paid; and

2) Get a 'Letter of Good Standing' from the Provincial professional body

Are you currently working as a CPA in Ontario? If not, then I think you will be fine. If you read the application guide carefully and parse the language (it states "if you are currently working in an occupation that is regulated in Ontario which requires mandatory certification or licensing in Ontario...[and then the second paragraph] If you are currently working in a regulated skilled trade in Ontario, you must submit a certificate or qualification...."), it is pretty evident that they're only concerned about you having the required licensing/certification if you're currently working in such a profession in Ontario. As long as you're not working as a CPA in Ontario right now (or during the times you're claiming experience in the NOC), you should be fine with submitting what you have.
