Hi Folks, I recently visited OHIP website and found that one of the eligibilities of OHIP is
you have submitted an application for permanent residence in Canada, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada has confirmed that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence in Canada

My wife is waiting for her application under FSW. She has done medical last year and the GCMS record we ordered shows that her file is under security check. Does any one have experience on getting OHIP while waiting for PR? Thanks!

Do you guys have a copy of the PER email? I got OHIP coverage by virtue of getting PER alone (I had not even received medical request by then), though since it's just an email, they had to first verify it with the CIC. So the following are steps you have to do
1. Go to ServiceOntario with your PER email
2. They will reject it, then you take the eligibility assessment form, send it to ServiceOntario for appeal
3. About 8 weeks later, they will send you the positive decision letter
4. Take the positive decision letter to ServiceOntario, and you have OHIP coverage!

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. Would you mind tell me what PER email is? She has an email regarding file was transfered. Another letter mail is informing us to expect finalizing her application without an interview with medical form. She went to ServiceOntario today. The agent said she needs to get a letter from CIC with signature with content saying she meets eligibility. I guess we will try to appeal and wait.

She must have gotten back an eligibility assessment form from them? You will now need to appeal to ServiceOntario, and they will try to verify her immigration case with the CIC (send the copies of file transfer and the medical emails, and also an explanation that she is now eligible to apply for PR, hence, eligible for OHIP as well).

In about 6 to 8 weeks, you will then get the positive decision that will enable her to get the OHIP coverage (she won't need the card for coverage, since it will take yet another 6 to 8 weeks to get the card from them, but the coverage will be immediate). Let me know, and good luck :)

Thanks again! The agent did not give any form to her. But I have found a publication on Health Ontario website - Requesting a Review of your OHIP Eligibility.

If you have time, it's probably not a bad idea to take her to ServiceOntario again. This time, ask for the assessment form (I got it when the agent rejected my eligibility the first time), because I think you will need it to have your eligibility re-reviewed.
