Hi everyone!
I just have a query in regards to driving in Ontario. I'll be moving to Toronto on June 30 on a work/holiday visa from Qld, Australia, for approx 2 years. I read somewhere that in Ontario, my QLD License can only be used for a maximum of 60 days, and then after that, I'll have to apply for the Ontario license. I just wanted clarification if this applies to everyone, regardless if your stay is permanent or temporary? I wasn't planning on driving much, or at all, but still wanted the option to be able to rent a car and just drive somewhere, on some weekends. How much would it cost?

Also, is it a requirement to have an international driver's permit (IDP)? Our IDP can only be purchased for a year at a time, and to be honest, when i've travelled to other countries in the past (including USA), i've never been asked to show it. They only needed my Australian license.

Thanks in advance :)

It says here: http://www.ontario.ca/driving-and-roads/drive-ontario-visitors that if you are visiting for more than 3 months, you need an international drivers license. It doesn't say what the maximum time for visiting and driving on an IDP is but I do not think that working in Canada for 2 years still falls under visiting.

According to http://www.ontario.ca/driving-and-roads/exchange-foreign-drivers-licence you can exchange an Australian license in Ontario so at least you don't have to take the tests.

Thanks for the reply. I asked over here as well, and was told that i can drive with my current license and IDP for one year, then after that, i'll have to change to the local license.
