Once arrived in Canada... wasn't told how long he had until he had to leave

Hi, my husband entered Canada on October 18, 2014 and his visa says V-1 Multiple and once he reached the security the guy asked him a couple questions and sent him on his way. However he never mentioned how long he had just had a stamp with the date he entered Canada..

so my question is does he automatically get 6 months and if anyone asked they could see the date he arrived and know how much longer he had?

the reason im asking is because id like him to have a longer stay then oringinally planned (rather than 2 + 1/2 months) have 5 or 6. and want to change the flight back.

thanks for any sort of imput or if anyone knows of someone i can call for sure to know.

All tourist entries are for 6 months unless stated otherwise.
