I am 39 years old, a Masters degree holder with 10 years experience in lecturing. I reside here in USA with an employment authorization through marriage to a USA citizen. Presently we are seperated but not divorced and I have already filed a VAWA case which allows me to have another employment authorization due to the abuse I get from my wife. We dont have any issue from the marriage though she has a 5 year old son and I have a 4 year old daughter too in Africa before we met . I intend moving to canada without her. How qualified am I and what route?

See if you meet the Federal Skilled Worker program requirements, you have to score at least 67 points out of 100. Then, find out what your CRS score would look like, assume a reasonable result for your language test, usually IELTS for English speakers. This will give you an idea of how competitive you are relative to the current cut-off score. See how that goes.

Then if you meet the eligibility requirements and want to move forward, register an Express Entry profile under the Federal Skilled Worker program as a starting point, provide all your details and enter the pool. You'll need to do a language test and get an ECA for your qualifications in order to do so.

Once you're in the pool, you'll be eligible for the round of invitations which are normally issued every 2 weeks.

However Frank, be prepared to lose quite a few points because of your age. An applicant loses 5 points for every year they are older than 29. That will add up.

You'll have to find ways to offset that loss in points, either through a job offer, trying to get a provincial nomination, or getting a good language test result in French.

You'll need to research Canada's immigration programs. There's really no short cut to that unless you're willing to drop a fair amount of money on an immigration lawyer. I would start with researching the Express Entry program. This is a point-based immigration program and those with the most points are selected. You should calculate your points to see if this is a viable option. Right now you need 470+ points to be selected and I suspect you may find it hard to reach the required points due to your age. If that's the case, you'll need to look into the Provincial Nominee Program immigration streams.
