OINP - Passport expiring. Problem?

For OINP, my passport expires in

Is that a major problem and will my

Attach a short letter of explanation noting the passport expires in a year and two months, and that you have initiated the process to have it renewed and extended, but that the process may take more time than you ave given the deadline; offer to send them the renewed passport copies as soon as you have it. You should be good after that (I had this exact same problem, albeit I still had 21 months of validity on mine when I sent OINP my passport). OINP mandates two years of validity, but you should be good to go after this.

Indian Passport holders can apply for renewal only within 12 months of expiry.

Do you mean to say that we can apply for renewal only if it's within 12 months of expiry?

For example, my passport expires in October 2017, so can't I apply before October 2016?

Even, I am in the process of sending documentation to Ontario PNP in few more days.

Yes.
Example- If your passport is expiring on 31st October 2017, then you can apply for renewal only from 1st November 2016 onwards.

Yes they will accept it if you provide a proper explanation. You can check the passport renewal rule for your country and if it is similar to that mentioned above, then it becomes a good valid reason.

Regarding the condition of passport validity at least for 2 years applies only for prime applicant or dependent also?

My spouse(dependent) passport is expiring in 1 year, Should I start the passport renewal process or can delay sometime?

Anyone having similar kind experience please do respond.
Early response would be highly appreciated.......

You can get it renewed now and make sure that you have it in hand while submitting e-APR OR before getting PPR.
