Hi all! I would appreciate if you can clarify my concerns regarding the OHIP.

I am moving to Ontario next year and read on their website that I will be eligible for the OHIP after 3 months.

If I apply after I have lived there for 2 months, will my coverage begin 3 months AFTER the application submission date? (meaning I need to buy private insurance for 5 months in total)

I read somewhere that the coverage will begin right after 3 months no matter when you apply (Is it true? I can't find the info on their official website)

I will first rent an airBNB, while trying to find a new place to rent. So, I won't have evidence in my first few months....

Thanks!

Use your landing documents, plane ticket, airbnb booking history, etc. Yes OHIP start 3 months after landing no matter when you apply if you are a PR or citizen. Best to apply when you have a permanent address.

Thank you, canuck78! So if I apply right on my 3 month completion, they will give me the card to use right away? Or I need to wait for the card via mail?

You may get a temporary print-out. Card is produced somewhere else and gets mailed to you. Just double-checking that you aren't a student or on a work permit.

Oh, I see! Thank you again for your answer. I don't need to worry about buying private insurance then.

I am a PR :).
