OHIP for child of permanent resident born outside Canada

Hi All,
Me and my wife landed at Toronto as permanent residents 2 months back and came back to US immediately.
Now, going back to Toronto with our month old baby, a US citizen.
But he is not a permanent resident of Canada and I'll sponser his PR after going there.
Is he eligible for health care plan OHIP or I need to wait till his PR is approved after a year?

Your child won't be eligible for OHIP until he/she is a PR. You should take out private insurance until then to cover emergencies. You'll have to pay for non-emergency care out of your own pocket. Processing of his PR application should be closer to six months rather than a year.
