Hi,
I have question regarding OHIP and medication costs.
I will be a Canadian PR not so long from now.
My wife told me, that OHIP doesnt cover medication!
I want a insurance on top of OHIP, what will take care only for medication costs. If there is any solution for this, please let me know!
If there is no option, what is there ells in Canada what covers medication in combination of health care insurance?

Thanks in advanced ;D

That's correct - OHIP does not cover prescription medication costs.

You really have two options.

First, if either you or your wife are employed by a company that provides additional benefits on top of OHIP (or allows employees to pay an additional fee to receive additional coverage) - you should investigate this benefits plan to determine if it will cover your needs.

Otherwise you'll have to look at obtaining additional coverage independently through an established company like Manulife Financial:

I am covered by one of their group policies through work. If you want to purchase something that will cover you specifically for prescription medication, I'd take a look at their Flexcare (sp?) product.

If neither of these two options work for you - then your only other option is to pay for the medication out of pocket as you need it.

Hope this helps.

Also note that if both of you are working and both have company provided medical plans, you can in some cases combine the benefits.

It is possible that a single company plan will not cover the full cost of medicines; If allowed, combining plans will normally cover all costs.

Thanks for the information!!!! :D
