This may be the right discussion group, but I am looking for an answer to this, therefore posting here.

Our OHIP is going to expire at end of this month and we can only renew it when we get our new work permits.

  1. Also, when I was at the clinic today the receptionist mentioned that my OHIP is going to expire on 20th August, however, on the card it’s mentioned that it’s valid until 31st August. Can it expire before the validity mentioned on the card?
  2. Are there any other insurance companies which we can opt for while we wait for our work permit and renew our OHIP?

Thanks.

Do you have a specific need for medical coverage while you wait? If not, I would just wait for the new work permits to come in.

It is NEVER a wise idea to not be covered by private insurance, if your OHIP expires and you are waiting for a work permit to renew it. You never have a idea what can happen, even the remotest thing. What if your appendix ruptures, car accident, slip fall break your leg, arm ? You would be on the hook for thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars.

We are definitely looking into private insurance. Do you have any suggestions?
