A question about OCI. Not on the process of getting one, but rather do I need OCI or not.

I've just become a Canadian, but have lived outside India for over 25 years now. Do not have immovable property there and am unlikely to inherit anything in the near future. Since we moved to Canada, visits to family & extended family are few and far in between. We think it is more cost effective to let our parents visit us here for a longer time, rather than go to India ourselves.

If there is any kind of emergency, as OCI would I have access to Canadian consular help when I am in India, or am I left to my own devices.

Planning to visit India after almost 6 years, this summer, hence the question.

Whether you have OCI or not is irrelevant; as a Canadian citizen, you have the right to consular services at a Canadian embassy, consulate and mission if available at said locations.

Consular services at the High Commission / consulate are different from consular help. For instance in an emergency like war / natural calamity. Would an OCI leave me out?

OCI is a lifelong visa, even though you get most of the previleges a citizen gets you're not an Indian citizen anymore. As long as you're not a citizen of the country that you currently reside in, my guess is that you would be able to get consular help.
