I am applying to sponsor my husband from Malawi. We have everything done, I"m just waiting for my notice of assessment for my taxes - I have not filed in two years because I live in Malawi and I"m a student so all my income is non-taxable in the province of Ontario. Will this be a really big problem? can I just submit it, or should I wait the possible weeks until I hear back?

I would advise you to wait until you get your option c printout from revenue canada before you send in your application but I don't think not doing your taxes in two years will be a problem.

I think the issue is that some of a past t4 is missing and my poor parents have no way of getting while I'm still a resident in Malawi... I have all my t4a's and scholarship award letters indicating my income; just really don't want to delay the process any longer than it has to be since I have to be back in Canada by September!

Send a letter explaining why no Option C and include proof of your income. You must be able to show that you can support yourself and sponsored individual, though there's no minimum.

Also include in your letter that you have no previous undertakings, no foreign holdings (if true) and have not declared bankruptcy (providing that is true).

All this should be fine... It's what I did an the sponsorship was approved quickly...

thank you! that was really helpful! what does "previous undertakings mean"? does that mean jobs?

No, just that you haven't sponsored any other immigrants.

Also include that you're not on social assistance and whether you have ever been.

It's all about stuff they'd see on your tax return... Income, source of income, state of bankruptcy, debts to the gov't and foreign holdings.
