Hello everyone,

I just had my tax return done for 2011. The lady told me that my Notice of Assessment will be sent in July probably.

I wanted to submit my application in May because that would be a year of my skilled work experience. I do have my T4's and notice of assessment from 2010 and only the T4's from 2011.

I called the CIC number to ask if I could submit my notice and t4 from 2010 and wait for the 2011 to submit later. The lady said the Notice cannot be more than 12 months old so I would have to wait for my 2011 notice of assessment.

Now, does anybody know what happens if I submit my T4's for 2010 and 2011 with my 2010 notice of assessment and a note saying I'm waiting for my 2011 notice to arrive and will be submitted as soon as I have it?

That's in advance

Since this is not your first time filing a tax return, you should get your NOA in about 2 weeks(if you used efile) or 6-8 weeks(by mail). This is assuming your tax return is not complicated. May be the lady got mixed up with the GST/HST cheque that is mailed out in July.

It's advisable to submit a complete application from the out set, but if by May you still haven't received your NOA, then you can do as you suggested.

Hello,

Oh really? Because she said that revenue agency does not send those until July, she also mentioned my first GST/HST cheque would be coming in July.

My return had two T4's and education credit so it wasn't that complicated and it was efiled. She did say that my return ($$) will be coming in about two weeks but not the NOA.

I'll give a call to the revenue agency and will post in here what they said.

I just want to submit my application as soon as I am eligible :) so hopefully I'll have everything in order by May.

I efiled last year and got both my refund and NOA in 2 weeks. As I understand, the NOA used to come with the GST/HST credit back in the day.

Makes sense, I'm looking at my tax papers from last year. My receipt for when I got my return done was Feb 17th and the date for my NOA is March 3rd. All indicates you are right :)

As an aside, if you paid to have your tax return done, you can claim it.:)

Noooo.. really? Hahah did not know that. I'll remeber for next year :)

Yeah. I read it on Yahoo news. All is not lost. Save the receipt and claim it next year when you file. :) Even what you spend on public transit passes(but you must save them in case CRA asks in future) can be claimed. For future reference, there are volunteers in public libraries(many are retired CRA agents) who will do your taxes free of charge.

Question about the notice of assessment. Do I have to get one from the CRA or can I print it off their website? I call and shes mailing me 2012s assessment but ideally I should probably submit 2013s but I'd like to print it off the website rather than waiting for the mail. (I'm not even sure if they are mailing me one)

NOA is available on your CRA account. They will mail you as well but you will receive it in 2 weeks of time. I printed one online and attached it with my application. I received hard copy after a week. if you want you can print it from website.
