I need some advice. I have some support letters that i would like to have notarized. But after asking a friend who wrote one of the letters, im a little concerned. He was telling me that it is not necessary to have them notarized, and that doing so might raise suspicion. He thinks that i am over doing it and that i will create more problems. He thinks that CIC officer will question why i am doing so much, as if my relationship is not genuine. I really appreciate your inputs.

If you are applying as common law then it is required to have 2 notarized letters of support. For marriage it's not required. For mine and my husband's application we are sending a few letters of support, but we're not having them notarized.
I don't think it will make the visa officer suspicious of your relationship just because u have a couple letters from friends notarized. Even if you're married, if u want to have notarized letters of support I really don't see it being an issue. If you feel like it will add to your application, and you are worried about not having enough proof of relationship then go ahead and get the letters notarized.

As stated above if your married you won't need the information notarized. But Common-Law is different, you have more to prove anyways below is the link that states you need atleast 2 statutory declarations which is the equivalent of having it notarized... you can show your friend your not going overboard :P

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3910e.pdf
10 PROOF OF RELATIONSHIP TO SPONSOR - in notes....
If you are a common-law or conjugal partner, provide evidence that your relationship is genuine and continuing and has existed for at least 12 months prior to your application. Also provide details of the history of your relationship and at least two statutory declarations from individuals with personal knowledge of your relationship supporting your claim that the relationship is genuine and continuing.

We are married and sent along two letters from our friends and they were notarized. I don't see any problems with it, if anything it will further prove things. At least that way the CIC officer will know that the letter is legit and was actually written by the person it says it is.

We applied common-law and had the help of an immigration consultant, we have 7 letters from family and friends and we never had them notarized. The only thing we had notarized was a Declaration of common-law, the legal form that shows you have stated you are common law to the government. we got this at a notary office and me and my spouse had to sign it along with a commisioner and its sealed with the notarized stamp.

but other than that we didnt need to have our letters notarized.

i am not sure if maybe when you dont get a common-law declaration, and only use letters you may need them notarized, but if you have the legal common-law declaration, getting the letters notarized is not necessary.

all we asked was for our friends and family to sign the bottom and leave there contact information.

:)
