Hi All,

I am going to submit notarized copies of some of my work experience documents as I do not have duplicates. I tried to get reference letters from my previous managers but they do not want to co-operate (for some unknown reason). And I always thought I had good relations with them :)

1) Anyways, I know this is going to make my case weak. But just wanted to get an opinion from you all.

2) I have applied in the IT manager category based on my job duties, not designation. That again weakens my case. But this was before they removed that category from the list.

3) My third point of weakness - I scored only 7 in IELTS listening (classic concentration lapse). 7.5 overall.

Do I stand a chance?

Thank you all in advance.

Has anyone been through this situation before?

1) Well non-original reference letters is something they can fail you on, since they explicitly ask for originals, so I guess it all depends on how convinced they are that you genuinely have the experience you are claiming. If your managers refuse to give you a reference could you instead perhaps approach HR (Human Resources) for the company? Failing that, at the very least submit a written explanation as to why you cannot provide the original reference letters, and the steps you've taken to try to acquire them, and give as much explanation as you can to support the copy documents you are providing.

2) Since job titles differ from country to country the actual title as I understand it is not as important and the duties you perform. They want to be convinced you have skills in what they would class as an IT manager.

3) As long as you make 67 points, and score at least moderate (5.5 in all cats except reading, which can be 5.0 I think!) then your IELTS score doesn't matter. Certain professions like teaching etc require higher scores though, but generally the score just has to be at least moderate, and grant you a total of 67 points or more in your application.

>>> Job reference letters are a must and it should be in original.

2) I have applied in the IT manager category based on my job duties, not designation. That again weakens my case. But this was before they removed that category from the list.

>>>> You are right, you dont have second chance.

>>>> This is fine. They have'nt rejected anyone scoring 7 or 7.5 Band citing poor language proficiency.

Do I stand a chance?
>>> I think without reference letter VO would give your application hard time. Notarized copy of work related documents are all right, except Job duties letter, business card and 2 reference letters.
I suggest make a fresh effort to get reference letters.

I don't think thats a problem at all.

1. Its written that if you can't send the reference letter, you need to write them the reason for it. Best way to do that is send email to your jackass employer and ask him/her for the reference letter again. Whatever reply he sends you, just print and send it with your application. But I think notarized copy will be as good as original because you have to submit the original to the visa office anyway.

2. Designation doesn't matter. Duties and Responsibilities matters. Example: I can open a corporation in my country and declared myself as CEO. But as long as I dont perform duties and responsibilities of CEO, than that title is not going to make any sense.

3. If you have passed 67 points you are just fine.

Goodluck.

Thank you cappucino, cforcanada and explorer! you guys rock!

I do have original reference letter with my job duties listed for the job that I am claiming 0213 category. My manager for my second job was a gentleman and graciously provided me the reference letter.

If is my first job for which I do not have any reference letter. I am not claiming 0213 category for that work experience anyways.

I have proof of experience for my latest job, but do not have any reference letter because that raises a conflict of interest. I work in the US for a reputed firm.

Cforcanada,
Can you please tell me at what stage I need to send the original experience letters to the visa office?

I am through the first stage of submission and now I am asked to submit my documents to the visa office. And yes, I do have the email responses from my employer where they clearly said that they will not issue any reference letter for official purpose as they already issued experience letter at the time of my resignation.

I faced similar sort of situation. Two of my past employers closed down the operations and what i had was the appointment letters. I wrote a soft letter to VO clarifying the reason for non-availability of reference letters. No hinderance / problem faced and i got visas finally
