Hello all,
I'm new to the forum, but a cursory look around convinced me to sign up and ask everyone directly :)

I'm a Canadian passport holder who recently married her Pakistani boyfriend of 4 years. (we were both in Pakistan for those 4 years). Immediately after the wedding, we both filled out the sponsorship papers, and the plan was for me to go to Canada first, and on the basis of existing assets, family support, and any job I might find, to submit the sponsorship application in person (we were both unemployed at the time of the wedding, recent college graduates:)

But before I could go, he and I both found high paying jobs, mine in Pakistan, and his in Abu Dhabi. Now I've quit my job and am moving to Abu Dhabi to be with him, but our long run plans are to build up some savings, move to Canada, finance our further studying there, start a family there, etc.

So my questions are:

Is it even possible for me to sponsor my husband for immigration and PR status in Canada?
What is the process to do so? Is there a specific page on the cic.gc.ca website because I haven't found one
How can I convince the immigration office of our long term plans to move to Canada? Submit income taxes which I am not currently obliged to pay? Buy property? Invest in a business? (please remember that his job is well-paying according to a fresh graduate's standards :p)
How long would the process take in this case?
And please, if you think there are other relevant questions I haven't thought of, let me know

Section 130 (2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations says:

Sponsor not residing in Canada

(2) A sponsor who is a Canadian citizen and does not reside in Canada may sponsor an application referred to in subsection (1) by their spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent child who has no dependent children if the sponsor will reside in Canada when the applicant becomes a permanent resident.

1)Yes, it is possible to sponsor your spouse for PR in Canada.
2) Look at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp
3) Vague, long term plans are not sufficient proof of intent to re-settle. You must be prepared to do so before your spouse can be given a visa (see the quote from the IRPA above). As you are working in the Middle East, you will be expected to show proof of resignation, that you have obtained an exit visa and that you have cancelled your work permit. Without this proof, the VO can refuse your spouse a visa.
4) Ask yourself if sponsoring your spouse is something you want to do now, or later on down the road. You have recently found new jobs which you will be expected to leave when the process is completed, among other considerations.

I have read a few cases where the sponsorhip was denied due to the fact that the sponsor did not live or plan to live in Canada.
The sponsor did not have a job or tie ups in Canada and hence it was refused.

So it is very very tight.
