Hi all! I was hoping that someone might help me identify the correct NOC for me. I have already written to the workingincanada email (noc@workingincanada.gc.ca) and am waiting for their reply. In the meantime, perhaps someone has an opinion of what to do.

My job title is a power scheduler for a large utility in europe and below is the resposibilities listed in the original job advertisement;

Power Scheduler - Responsibilities
  • Scheduling and matching of whole sale power with internal and external counterparties in national and international power transmission networks to reduce company risk and ensure grid security according to system regulations and controls.
  • Resolving issues when scheduled volumes are inconsistent with the transmission network operators and other counterparties.
  • Support of European cross border import and export power transmission activities, including capacity allocation and transmission bookings between various European transmission system operators.
  • Scheduling of auxiliary, minute reserve, secondary reserve and other forms of reserve power as requested by the transmission system operators
  • Asset and system outage handling
  • Power trading activity support
  • Daily trade entry service in support of various departments, e.g. reserve power, partner power plants usage and portfolio transfers
  • Day Ahead Spot Market Order preparation to optimize whole sale power portfolio
  • Perform Schedule analysis and reporting service
  • Continuously maintain and develop the tools and processes of the operations team concerned with the business strategy and market requirements
  • Maintain daily records of operation
  • Deliver project support for department
Qualifications
  • education in electrical engineering, economics, or similar qualifications
  • experience in power dispatch and scheduling functions
  • short term trading knowledge and cross department project experience favourable

After a lot of research the closest NOC I have found is 9241 power systems operators. Personally, I don't feel it really reflects what I do but I would like to get an additional opinion since choosing a NOC is so important.

Any thoughts anyone??

suggest you to email NC-NOC-CNP-GD@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca who will be able to advice you the best noc applicable to your job description.

This is an official government email who provides such service:

http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/SendUsEmail.aspx

Good luck.

thanks bram. Actually I already sent them a message. I used both the email you stated and the noc@workingincanada.gc.ca, which coincidently seems to be the same email in the end judging from the auto-reply email.

Just thought I would get additional opinions though..

No worries.

They usually reply in 1-2 working days so just wait till then.

In my case they had asked about my education and total experience to determine the NOC.

Good luck.

so after waiting, I received a reply that NOC 2133 Electrical and electronics engineers could be appropriate for my description. While it does kind of have some similarities with the description I posted, I don't think it's appropriate at all. I still think 9241 is the best fit, yet still not really what I do.

I'm not really sure what to do at this point. Anyone have any advice??
