Hi Esteemed Members,

While I'm filling up Express Entry profile, I'm badly stuck at NOC Code. Could someone please help with this? I did search in the forum and other places in internet but could not get anything substantial. I truly understand that job title has nothing to do with NOC as job responsibilities are most important with 60%-70% of match with NOC description. I'll give a brief about my work:

I am a B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering) in Electronics. But my work exp of 7+ years doesn't include anything from Electronics.

I'm purely into Digital Analytics (also known as Web Analytics).

I use Omniture, Google Analytics and other Analytical tools to capture online behavior of users of our websites. And then I translate data into insights and provide to senior management for data driven decisions. Use SQL for data mining. (50%)

I also do Social Media Analytics. (15%)

I also apply Data Science through R/Python to forecast, predict and do similar things. (15%)

I also do SEO for websites. (10%)

I manage a team of 6 people. I upscale them w.r.t. business goals. (10%)

Could someone please help with correct NOC code for above description? Many thanks in advance!!!

The more I read your job description, the more I feel its 2171, I may be wrong.
But you can look at some examples on this link for 2171 job examples.

I worked as a Social Media Analyst and I used NOC 1254

http://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3V...&CVD=122376&CPV=1254&CST=01012011&CLV=4&MLV=4

Hope this helps.

Thanks @btoronto for being the first one to help. I did not check NOC 1254 before and now I feel I may connect with this. But this also grows my confusion between NOC 1254 and 2171 as also mentioned by @amit2canada . So I'm also little unclear and if you can help again - lets say I go with NOC 1254, at which stage I might face a challenge or rejection scenario and will there by any possibility to do damage-control that time. Many thanks!

Thanks @amit2canada for helping.. Yes, I'm also stuck with 2171 but not very confident about it. I had contacted LMIA but they did not suggest any NOC and rather gave links that how to search for NOC codes. That did not help me much. :(

I get your struggle, I was very confused too and I didn't find help anywhere, at the end I just went with what I felt was closer to my job description. So I would recommend you to sit with your work reference letter and check your roles one by one to see if they match in some way with the ones in the NOCs. My personal opinion, having work side by side with web analysts, is that is definitively closer to 1254. I just don't see it in 2171. But hey, I might be wrong.

I don't know exactly when they check the NOC. I have read here about a rejection 3 months after AOR due to incorrect NOC. If they think it's wrong they would reject your application and you would have to start over.

Its a golden suggestion as I know I did something very similar, however in my case I was the one who provided every single word in the reference letters for the companies I had worked with and was working with. The letter they gave had my exact words and it matched very closely to 2173 NOC.

So yes get your experience letters in your hand and read through them thoroughly and try to match with possible NOC codes job descriptions because thats what immigration officer will do while verifying the NOC codes with your job descriptions in the letters.

Thanks @amit2canada for all your kind help and precious time. So the joining letter and experience letter mention only 'job title' but not the job responsibilities. So, I should first ask my current organization to provide my work duties on company letterhead and then tally with NOC code, right?

Thank you so much @btoronto and @amit2canada for helping out. I am going to get LOE from my current organization resonating with closest NOC. But one last question and no more afterwards :)

Is "Employment Requirements" also considered or is it only the main duties? I mean if I have done Bachelor's degree in Electronics and its not matching it with "Employment Requirements" but the work duties are matching, will there be any issue?

For instance, in below case, employment requirement doesn't say bachelor's in electronics but its main duties are somehow matching:

"Employment requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in economics, commerce, business administration or public administration is required.
  • Certification as a certified economic developer (Ec.D.) may be required."

P.S.: Got one NOC recommended by a senior in organization: 4163

I'm starting to think you're working at my old job lol. I also got that NOC recommendation and I dismissed it.

As far as I know what needs to match are the main duties.

Thanks again @btoronto !!! :) And yes, I have also dismissed it now. This NOC thing has twisted, squeezed my brain fully. :D And you two guys have given me some precious time and confidence. :)

I'm going to go with 0124, found it today only. This lines gives me huge relief and I can connect with it.
