Hi Everyone,

I know NOC Code questions have been posted to death, so I apologize in advance. I have also emailed my question to the NOC email, but am afraid they won't get back to me in time for me to update my application before the next draw (if indeed there is one this Wednesday). I would like to get in on this next draw, as my FBI PCC will pass the 6 month mark December 2nd, and I'd like to get my application in before that.

My situation is this. I worked for a year as an archaeological technician, which is listed under 5212 Technical Occupations Related to Museums and Art Galleries. My duties don't really match the lead description, but the description is pretty vague (feels like sort of a hodgepodge group for all of the lower level social sciences jobs they couldn't fit anywhere else). I know that conventional wisdom is that the lead description is more important than the "title". In terms of duties, my jobs fits more in line with 4169 Other Professional Occupations in social science, nec. HOWEVER, for 4169, under Employment Requirements, the phrase "A Master's or Doctoral Degree in the Discipline is usually required". I did not have a Master's degree when I first got this job- I actually completed it after I'd been on the job about 4 months. 5212 just lists a college degree or on the job training as needed for employment. Given this, which should I choose? Is it possible to change the NOC code without penalty after an ITA if the NOC code people email me back with a choice other than the code I choose?

Education is not an issue when choosing NOC code. Find the best NOC to fit your duties/reference letter.

Great, I'll go with 4169, which is what matches the lead duties best. It does say a Master's or PhD is "usually required". I guess I'll go with the consistency in lead duties as opposed to title/education and hope for the best!

This is what is written and suggested everywhere else too. Just go with what your duties said and find NOC according to that.
