Dear All,

I have a quick question. I am from a foreign lawyer and presently do not have the license to practice here. Meanwhile I have applied to this research post, which basically does public policy and economics-related work. Would this be an issue if I take it, as I won't have the required education in economics? What NOC categories would fit in?

Would they object to my lack of previous educational background. I had taken a course in my Masters which deals with policy matters though. Do I have a chance if I can get a letter from my professor and prospective employer?

Can someone please share their similar experience? Really appreciate the help.

Best,
Bend

Your education is OK.

Thank you so much for the response! So does this means education is not given that much consideration with respect to the NOC or is it?

It means that in most cases, your education does not have to be in exactly the same field.

There are exceptions, for regulated occupations, you must have the required education.

And it has to make "sense" - lots of people work in IT with degrees in different fields, for example. And while you could study (for example) engineering and work in business, you could not study business and claim to be an engineer.
