Hi,

This is our first post on this forum. I will be applying under the points system of the Federal Skilled Worker Programme VISA.

It seems that even without a job offer, I have enough points to pass the minimum requirement of 67.

About me:
I am a fully qualified carpenter with 3-5 years experience, a bachelors degree in design, fluent in English as first language, I have a sister who is now a resident/citizen in Vancouver (where we want to move to), and I will be coming with my wife who is the same age as me, 31. I also have no criminal history and am in perfect health and will have a decent amount of money saved to bring.

My question is, without a job lined up, would this heavily impact our applications chance of success?

Help will be massively appreciated. Many thanks. Dan and Louisa.

If you want to apply through the Federal Skilled Worker program then you'll need a job offer in Canada to qualify to apply.

I would recommend that you check out the Federal Trades immigration program instead.

Hi,

I have read all about the trades programme, and that does not have points system, but has 4 main criteria I must satisfy. One of them is to have a job offer.

This is why I read all about the skilled worker one instead as it is based on points instead, and job offer can give you up to 15 points. Even without this amount of points as I have no job lined up, I have enough points, and enough cash to keep us going until I get a job.
My question was, even though I have enough points for entry, do they only let people in, over and above people like me, who have a job? or do they accept anyone who simply has enough points? or is it the more points the better?

I know a job would increase my chances, but its hard as a carpenter to get someone to offer a year long job, wait an undisclosed amount of time, and assist me with my immigration! It would be easier to get a job if I actually live there already and could start an advertised post immediately!

If you want to apply through the Federal Skilled Worker program (rather than Trade program) and you do not have a job offer, then your occupation MUST appear on the list of occupations on the following page AND your occupation cannot have reached the 300 application cap.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/complete-applications.asp

If your occupation does not appear on the page above, or if it appears but has reached the cap, then you need a job offer in Canada to qualify to apply. If you apply without a job offer then your application will be automatically refused regardless of how many points you have.

So to answer your question - no, they do not accept anyone who simply has enough points. You need to have the right occupation (or a job in Canada) also.
