Hi,

I have had major issues finding employment, or even getting an interview, in Canada when applying from Sweden and currently being employed. I will land in Canada on December 12th, and my plan was to resign on November 12th (one month notice).

So I thought, since I don't have Condition 51 on my CoPR, I can just take a 2 month temporary leave of absence and go spend time with my partner in Canada while looking for jobs (and wait for the PR card).

Yes I know I can have my partner send it to me in Sweden, but I'd like to be there for some time.

I just need to be ABSOLUTELY SURE I can leave Canada after I get my PR card to go and continue working in Sweden if I don't manage to find employment while I am there.

Yes?

Why are you worried so much about your PR card, if you are a Swedish citizen you don't actually need it to travel. The PR card is most important for those who aren't visa exempt, as the airlines wont let them on the plane.

Basically not worried about the PR card. I just want an "excuse" to spend some time there. ;)

I just need to know that me not residing in Canada will not be an issue, as long as I spend at least 2 out of 5 years there.

I may need to come and immediately leave.

As you don't have Condition 51, there is no issue with you leaving.

You coming back to the Kitchener/Waterloo area. What are you seeking employment doing? I'm not far from Kitchener can keep my eyes and ears open for you.

Thanks, but I currently work for a top tier IT consulting firm and I intend on staying on that career track, and I don't think keeping anybody's ears open would help :) I am increasing my networking level to 1000 starting now.

Thanks for offering help though!

I am prepared for possibly settling for way less though.

Oh, the things you do for love. Darn. ;)

Linked in is a good site .I have a few friends that do consulting for IT. Good luck! Yes what we do for love lol .

Yes I am doing all there is in terms of networking and my CV is as good as a CV can get. Still hard. You need a foot in the door!
What companies do they work for?

(And yes I know that this topic has left the family class scope :) )

I will take a look tomorrow and send you a pm. Its not easy getting your foot in the door when you first come to Canada , that's why word of mouth is so important . Its called networking.

I came to Canada on an open work permit, found a job within a month and worked my way up to the position I wanted. Only took 6 months. You might not get your dream job right away but with hard Swedish work (in my case German lol) everything is possible :D

I came to Canada with a 2 year visa (IEC) and got in with a consultancy firm funded by Accenture and Microsoft. They are worldwide, 160 countries I believe. PM me if you want details.
