My wife and I got our CoPR stamped in May 2020 and got our PR cards a few months after. We're living in California.

My wife is pregnant and we're at the moment planning to have the baby in the US with a due date of around October 2021. What is the process of getting the baby with us to Canada? What are the associated timelines? Is it a straightforward process?

We've some family close by, giving us a reason to have the baby here rather than in Canada.

If we do move to Canada before having the baby, how easy is it during these Covid times, for our parents to get super visa?

Thanks,
Aditya

If you give birth to the baby in the U.S., then once you return to Canada to live here permanently, you would bring the baby in as a visitor and then submit an application to sponsor the baby for PR. Processing generally takes around 8 months for this application. You need to be living in Canada to submit it - not possible from outside of Canada.

Super visa processing times are long right now. However this may be entirely feasible. Apply now and see if the visas are ready in time.

Isn't the visitor visa valid for up to 6 months? It's okay to stay longer if you're in the sponsorship queue?

Thank you for your response!

You would apply to extend your child's visitor status to allow them to stay in Canada longer.
