hi

I am new here but I would like to ask a number of questions. Before doing so, I would like to share my background.
I am in my early 40s and I hold a degree in design. But I think I may not be able to migrate by skills because my work experience is not directly under my trained field of study. I taught students most of the time as a private tutor. And I suspect this cant do either. The other alternative I was thinking is to start a business, which I have always wanted to do. I would like to know how I could go about it? What would I be expected to do? I genuinely like Canada a lot. I have been there and I like the way of living and the people are so nice! But looking at my situation, I may be too old to emigrate, but I don't mind holding a business visa or something similar to stay there as a permanent resident. However, my best outcome would be to become a citizen. I know 2 foreign languages but none of them is French though I am learning the language now. Also, I would like to know if Canadians would harbor some anti foreigner sentiments? I am Asian so I am a little weary of that since it has been a long time since I was there and that many countries now are somewhat anti-foreigner. I'll stop here for now, and I look forward to hearing from anyone here. Cheers!

thanks for the reply... I went to read the brief info online at this site and I think there is a possibility to go in via the business route. I am wondering if I could directly set up a business in Canada?

You can look at the provincial nominee programs business classes, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/provincial/index.asp You basically have to look at each province, see what programs they have, what kind of business program, how high the investment etc. If you apply to the province with your business plan and they approve it, they will nominate you as a provincial nominee and you can use that to apply for your PR.

thanks Leon! This is very useful! I have surfed through the pages, and I was wondering if there are grants for foreign setups to patent and manufacture products there? Cheers!
