Hi all,

My fiancé and I moved to Canada in August this year and we love it here already, problem is we would like to stay longer but I'm on a New Zealand IEC so I am only permitted a year, however by fiancé is Australian and he can get another 2years. My question is I have heard that because we became common law partners that I should be able to ride off his next visa. Is this true? If so how do I go about it?
I would really appreciate any feedback.
Thanks

I would post this on the visitors section instead of Canadian Experience Class. This part is mainly for immigration.

IEC in and of itself only covers the applicant and not spouses, common-law partners, etc - see http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/australia-australie/experience_canada_experience/faq.aspx#aus-9

You may be eligible for a 'spousal' open work permit if your fiance is a skilled worker - see Who can apply for an open work permit? (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=177&t=17). (I don't believe IEC precludes this)

Of course - if you're marrying him soon and getting an Aussie passport, you could apply to the Australian working holiday program yourself :)
