Do you guys think this might be the reason for slow processing in other consulates...Mine is in queue at London   ...but I know some of my friends are going through the New Delhi Consulate and have submitted their passports for about 3 months without any news. As a matter of fact, based on the New Delhi Google stats only 1 person got their passport back in 2013.

What about other consulate guys???

And WHY only LONDON was highlighted on an International perspective?? Are the rest of the employees around the world satisfied with their Pay??? If you want to create a commotion then all the major consulates should strike at the same time.
It's not necessarily individual employees... it's the union as a whole that makes the decisions. London is probably a warning shot meant to get people to blast the Treasury Board before other larger embassies get dragged in.

I think New Delhi is one of the biggest offices.

A long time ago, someone posted a link that showed how many people worked in the London office and I remember the number sounding ridiculously low. I never found the link again. :(

Would this effect those who are working, I mean it could affect their mood towards the app and unnecessarily delay it or refuse it

nothing would surprise me at this point,
i really dont think they would refuse someone because of a bad mood, there needs to be serious grounds for refusal, but it could possibly cause delays if people arent happy with there work and wages etc.

I don't know if it would cause them to refuse applications, but they would probably work slower and sloppily if they are unhappy. I am hopeful that they would be sympathetic to families who are separated by borders as a lot of FSOs spend loads of time away from their families as well (even though it's for different reasons).

Thousands of people on this forum care!

I'm kind of torn... I want the Foreign Service union to end the strike ASAP but am not convinced the Treasury Board should give in to their demands... they're complaining about making less than other gov't employees but their salary range is already $58,055 - $112,512. And that's for non-executives!!! Many Canadians would be in heaven with that much money. And in many countries the cost of living is quite low so think about how much further that goes...

It may seem like a lot of money unless you know what it is that they have to do to earn it.

I fully support this job action as these workers have no other alternative to get the employer back to the negotiating table. If the employer had any respect for the process of collective bargaining the FSW's would not be forced into job actions. Theirs is not the first union to be treated with contempt by this government. Nor does this government give a shnit about your application as they have been closing Visa Offices.
The cone of silence is slowly slipping off Stevie Harper and his cast of clowns.

I agree, and I'm not even a big fan of unions (I've been in situations where union reps don't actually listen to members, go after the wrong targets, etc.). The FSOs are in an unfortunate situation because I doubt they would be able to garner the public sympathy that could put pressure on the powers that be since the public thinks they're all living like Gordon Campbell.

As a postal worker I get to witness daily the difference between the reality of the job and the public's perspective of the job. I equate it with our collective experience with immigration. From outside the experience seems very straightforward and as long as you have all your ducks in a row you expect a pretty expedient outcome. As we can see the reality is far different.

What is particularly troubling is the fact we are saddled with a government that is hostile to unions and myopic with immigration.

It doesn't bode well.

Next election is 2015. I'm hoping we can retain something worth being Canadian about.
