Hi everyone,
During our initial landing in Canada my family and I were not offered to apply and receive PR cards. We returned back to US where we currently live. Several months ago we applied for our PR by mail while being in Canada. We received letters confirming that our PR cards had been issued. We need to present during a 160 days period with our passports, visas, list of absences from Canada...Also the letters states: "Proof of residence in Canada may be required (e.g. Notice of Assessment from Canada Revenue Agency, T-4 statement, employer's letter, school records, etc)". We can not provide the above proof of residence since we are just moving to Canada now.
We've been outside Canada less than 1050 or so days that are the limit set by the Canadian immigration laws. Therefore, I believe that we should not have problem receiving the PR cards. Although, having in mind our previous issues with the immigration officers, we are a little concerned about the requirement of "Proof of residence in Canada".
Anybody, can you please give me any advise on how have these assessments been held recently. Any people that currently attended such assessment, please give me an insight what should we tell the officer when they inquire about a "Proof of residence...". Should we hire an attorney to represent us at the time of the interview or if we have issues afterwards.
Anyone, please give me your advice!!!
Thank you very much all !!!
