Dear Canadian sponsors of parents and grand parents .
It looks like the the PGP program was opened on January 2 ,2015 and it was closed the same day because of an enormous number of applicants , estimate 40,000-50,000 application but only 5,000 are accepted .
Can somebody suggest anything on how to be part of 5,000 cap ?
I sent an application to sponsor my mother on Dec 31 as an express package but it arrived only on the 6th of January and I called CIC to find out any news about my application but they have no any data .
Does anyone have the similar situation and what to expect ? Is it really a situation that CIC will only consider applications received on Jan 2 and the rest will be sent back to senders even without opening the envelopes?
Thank you , waiting for yours responses .

The short answer is that applications received Jan 2nd made the cut and so did at least some applications received Jan 5th. Still too early to say whether Jan 6th applications will be accepted under the cap.

Thank you for your reply , but looking at how the PGP program was set up and the 5,000 applications cap, it's all makes impossible for those who live outside of GTA and other provinces to have the application delivered the day of opening the program ...CIC on its web site is talking about faster family reunification but in fact what we have now is all unclear of times when there will be a chance for the application to be accepted by CIC . It can take now an indefinite number of years till the parents sponsorship will be approved , but before 2012 it was at least known that it takes 2-3 years , so who benefits from this new PGP program?

The OP is apparently looking for a debate on current policy, and wisely opened a new thread. It would have gotten lost in the existing positive discussion that you kindly posted. . . . MAYBE that was your point!!

What kind of debate is OP looking for ??? This PGP program was closed in 2012 and reopened only in January 2014 , so it was discussed and planned for almost 2 years !!! And now - a new debates?? Didn't they expect tens of thousands of applications from people trying to deliver theirs application on the first day ???Of course they did !!! They declared the program is closed on January 16 on CIC web site but when I called CIC call center and asked about application delivered on the 6th of January , the response was that it will be sent back to the sender ....so are they trying to mislead people or what ???
